The Second 500 MW Unit of Stage-II, controversy-marred 2,980 MW plant at Sipat Project of National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) situated near Bilaspur in Chattisgarh has been successfully coal fired 10-11-2008, after its synchronization. With the synchronization of this unit of the project has attained full capacity of 1000 MW under Stage-II. Efforts are on to put the unit on commercial operation at the earliest. The first 500 MW Unit of Stage-II is already under commercial operation since June this year and consistently performing at high PLF.The ultimate approved capacity of the Sipat is 2980 MW which includes 3 Units of 660 MW super critical boilers in Stage-I and 2 Units of 500 MW in Stage-II. All the 3 Units of 660 MW are under various stages of implementation. The beneficiaries of this project are Western Region States namely Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, Daman & Diu and Dadar Nagar Haveli.
NTPC’s 4,300 acre thermal power plant in Sipat with three units of 660 MW each and two units of 500 MW each, will be the country’s first project to operate on super-critical boilers that burn less fuel to produce the same amount of electricity as conventional boilers.
Presently, NTPC has a total installed capacity of 29,894 MW from 26 Power Stations including Joint Ventures.
