Public sector major NTPC is currently working on various new projects which will together add a new capacity of 18,000 MW electricity, its Chairman R.S. Sharma said. The new capacities, being built across the country, are at present in different stages of construction.

Mr. Sharma said the company expects to make an investment of Rs 17,700 crore during the current financial year and majority of funding has already been tied up.NTPC may go for private placement of bonds if need arises during the year, he said.

On the quantum of funds that the company may raise, he said, it is not possible to decide on that now. Asked if the government is likely to further disinvest its stake in the company and would be any follow-on offer or not, he said it is only the government which can answer that. "I am not aware about it."

Responding to queries on the dispute the company has over KG gas with Reliance Industries, he said the case is subjudice and he would not like to say anything on the subject.

On not being able to bag Ultra Mega Power Projects (UMPPs), Sharma said NTPC's performance should be judged from the number of projects it is pursuing and the total quantum of generation.

He said the company bid aggressively for a couple of such projects and will be interested in bidding for UMPPs that are lined up. But there are some issues about UMPPs which the company is discussing with the government, he said.

Further, the NTPC Chairman said the company has taken major initiatives for project implementation and there will be web -based monitoring of the different projects. Besides, BHEL has enhanced manufacturing capacity of boilers and turbines which will also help in speedier execution of projects.

The PSU is also expanding its footprint globally by undertaking projects in countries like Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Bhutan and UAE, he said.
