Days after giving the green signal for resumption of work at the Kudankulam nuclear power project, Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa on 31-03-2012 urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to allocate the entire power generated from the plant to the state. In a letter to the PM, Jayalalithaa said, "It would be proper and justifiable that the entire power to be generated from the plant is made available to Tamil Nadu... I hope this request will be positively considered by you. May I also reiterate that we require and deserve this power?"
The CM had written a letter to the PM seeking his support to expand the power transmission corridor available to the state. In a March 9 letter, she urged him to intervene with the central power authorities to make available the transmission corridor to bring 1,000 MW to the state. While the state had purchased power from outside, the congested transmission corridor posed a challenge, she said.
