Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BHEL), the largest engineering and manufacturing enterprise in India has secured a third contract for Rs.1,325 crores from Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corp. Ltd. (APGENCO) for supply and installation of 1x600 MW thermal power generating unit at Kakatiya Thermal Power Project Stage-II at Bhoopalapally in Warangal district of Andhra Pradesh.

BHEL's scope of work covers design, engineering, manufacture, supply, erection and commissioning of steam turbines, generators, boilers, associated auxiliaries and electricals, besides controls & instrumentation. The contract is to be completed within 42 months.

BHEL said the boiler and its auxiliaries would be manufactured at its Tiruchirapalli and Ranipet works in Tamil Nadu, while the steam turbine and generator would be manufactured at the company's Haridwar plant. The pumps and heat exchangers will be manufactured at its Hyderabad plant and electricals at the Bhopal plant, while BHEL's Electronics Division, Bangalore, will supply controls and instrumentation system.

APGenco had earlier placed an order with BHEL to set up a 500MW thermal power generating unit at the Stage-I of the same power station. The present order is a testimony to the customer's confidence in the company's capabilities and proven technological excellence.

BHEL has fully established state-of-the-art technology to manufacture thermal sets up to 600MW rating in the sub-critical range and has the capability to manufacture sets up to 1,000MW rating.

The company has also equipped itself to produce thermal sets with supercritical parameters, suited to Indian conditions, using Indian as well as imported coal. In addition, the company is shoring up its capability for higher rating hydro sets and advanced class gas turbines to cater to upcoming market requirements.

BHEL is augmenting its capacity to meet the power forecast for the 11th Plan period and beyond. Towards this, the company has enhanced its manufacturing capacity to 10,000MW per annum, with a provision to further expand to 15,00MW per annum in the next two years at a total investment of Rs.4,200 crores.

when will start the power genration of first boiler of 500MW.
