Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) has rejected the demand of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) to increased load-shedding hours. The earlier protocol is valid now with certain modifications. In a lengthy 58-page order on 28-11-2008, the MERC ruled on the petition filed by the MSEDCL for effecting additional loadshedding hours. The MERC has said that in case the demand-supply gap continues to prevail at levels higher than 4500 MW for extended periods of time, and does not look likely to reduce in the near future, MSEDCL may undertake higher levels of load shedding corresponding to the higher levels of demand-supply gap, as specified in this order.
