The state-level inauguration of the electricity adalat of KSEB being conducted to solve the complaints of the consumers was held at Rosemount Auditorium in Pathanamthitta on 01-02-2009 at 10 a.m. Kerala Electricity Minister Sri. A.K. Balan inaugurated the adalat. Sri. K. Sivadasan Nair MLA, presided over the function. Sri. Raju Abraham MLA, Sri. KC Rajagopalan MLA, Smt. Santhakumari A District Panchayat president and Sakkeer Hussain Municipal chairman participated in the inaugural ceremony.KSEB member presented the report. KSEB special officer Sri. Rajeev Sadanandan delivered the welcome speech and the Chief Engineer Sri. K Radhakrishnan expressed vote of thanks.
While inaugurating the Adalat minister said that the Government is trying to lift the load shedding during this summer by resorting to effective demand side management. He requested the cooperation of public in this regard. KSEB had already initiated free CFL distribution scheme to domestic consumers of Kerala state to reduce the peak load demand.Through this, KSEB is hoping to save 60MW peak load demand during this summer.
He said the power sector in India as a whole was facing a serious crisis. However, the state government could make certain effective interventions to reduce its intensity, he added. The Minister called for people’s cooperation to tide over the crisis by reducing power consumption. He stressed the need for popularising the use of compact fluorescent lamps (CFL) with a view to saving power.
Kerala was allocated a coal farm wroth 1000MW of power generation in Orissa. But the construction of this project may take time. meanwhile Kerala Government is planning to construct a 2200 MW Thermal power project at Cheemeni, kasaragod.The Government was able to reduce AT&C loss from 34% to 20%. System improvements are made to reduce it to 15%.
Total 77 complaints were received in the adalat held at pathanamthitta. 25 complaints were fully settled.
The deputy chief engineers (distribution) of KSEB and local MLAs will attend the adalats to be held at the electrical circles up to February 28. Consumers who want to settle the dues have been offered concessions.The surcharge on dues will be reduced to 6 percent for one-time settlement.The Deputy Chief Engineers of Electrical Circles shall have full powers (ie., without any financial limit) for One Time Settlement during Adalath.
So far, around 10,000 complaints have been received for consideration in the adalats.The surcharge on the dues of the Government departments, PSUs and panchayats will be reduced to 3 percent if they opt for one-time settlement.The dues should be settled before March 31.
