Electrification of housesKallooppara assembly constituency in Pathanamthitta district became the sixth of the state's 140 constituencies to be fully electrified on 22-12-2008. Kerala Electricity Minister A.K. Balan formally declared Kallooppara as fully electrified at a function in Mallapally, where MLA Joseph M Puthusserry was also present. Kerala Government has initiated ambitious plan to electrify all households in the state for which KSEB will provide Rs.one crore to each constituency. Balance amount is to be met from various funds like MLA/MP funds, local bodies fund, SC/ST fund etc.

Irinjalakuda, Mankada , Alappuzha, kuzhalmandam and kodakara are the other constituencies in the state that have achieved total electrification.'I am really delighted that I have been able to complete the project of electrification for all in my constituency.

Mr. Balan said reaching sustainable electricity at an affordable tariff to every household is the policy of the LDF government. He said the State had to generate not less than 3000 MW in the next 10 years to meet the power requirements. He said many projects proposed by the Kerala State Electricity Board were facing opposition from environmentalists. He called for co-operation from all quarters for the government’s development initiatives.

New power lines stretching 106 km were put up, 3,056 electric posts were erected and 2,248 new power connections given in a period of 26 months to complete this project,' MLA told the media.

When asked from where the money came for the two ambitious projects, Puthusserry said that he had used his legislator's development fund productively in addition to the fund provided by KSEB.

The last time the constituency was in the news was when Puthusserry took up an ambitious project to make it computer literate by providing computers to all the 106 government and aided schools in his constituency.

'For the computer project, I spent Rs. five million and the electrification project cost Rs.4.6 million. The highlight of these two projects is that the major beneficiaries have been people from the lower strata of the society,' he added.
